Featuring Amy Hansen, Soprano; Deac Guidi, Baritone; Angela Niederloh, Mezzo-soprano; with Coast Community Radio’s Joanne Rideout telling the legend and Apprentice Artists with Baroque Instruments and Dance.

Ariadne, the Goddess (or was she a Mortal?), who knew the mysteries of the Labyrinth, was abandoned on the island Naxos by her lover, and ultimately rescued and wed by Dionysus (a.k.a. “Bacchus”), God of Pleasure and Wine. Featuring vocal and instrumental music inspired by this ancient tale.
The opera The Beautiful and True Ariadne is a masterpiece of German High Baroque, combining florid Italian vocal style with lavish dances of the French Court and brilliant orchestral music. A hit at its Hamburg premiere (the young Handel played second violin in later performances), the opera was lost and forgotten for 300 years until its recent rediscovery.
