From Portland-based jazz pianist and composer Darrell Grant, The Territory is a 40-minute, multi-movement work for nine musicians combining improvisation, composition and narrative to explore the connection between music and place, drawing on sounds, images and stories of the Pacific Northwest and its diverse communities. Darrell Grant is joined by gospel vocalist Marilyn Keller and other Portland-based musicians, as well as Brian Blade, Steve Wilson and others from New York City. Program also includes George Gershwin’s An American in Paris for Two Pianos (1928); Sonata for Violin and Piano (1923-27) of Maurice Ravel. Musical Conversation 7-7:30 PM.
