Oregon Symphony: Fanfare for the Common Man — Through April 22
If you like Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man, you’ll love his quintessentially American Symphony No. 3, which incorporates the original brass and percussion Fanfare and develops it symphonically. Antheil’s Symphony is a very early example of including jazz elements in a full orchestral setting, and Bernstein’s five-movement Serenade accompanies the violin solo with just strings, harp and percussion featuring James Ehnes, violin. Carlos Kalmar, conductor.
Performances repeat Sunday, April 21, at 7:30 pm and Monday, April 22, at 8 pm. For tickets and information, visit link above or call the Oregon Symphony ticket office at 503-228-1353. At Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, 1037 Southwest Broadway, Portland, 97205.
