Performing this afternoon: Daniel Rouslin, violin; Charles Akert, cello and Ian Scarfe, piano. This program features two works composed in the midst of the Second World War – one by American composer Aaron Copland, Sonata for Violin and Piano (1943), the other by Russian Dmitri Shostakovich, Trio No. 2 in E Minor for Violin, Cello, and Piano, Op. 67 (1944). Each work is dedicated to a close friend – Copland’s Sonata to Lieutenant Harry Dunham, who died in action in the Pacific front; Shostakovich’s Trio to his mentor, musicologist Ivan Sollertinsky. Following the recital will be a complimentary wine and dessert reception featuring Twinsies Cupcakes.
