Two good documentaries lighten the load this week for podcast Number 95:
Finding Vivien Maier, about the elusive Chicago photographer, and The Galapagos Affair, a true tale of lust and murder in the Pacific (with voice work by Cate Blanchett, Connie Nielsen, and others). Also on hand is The Railway Man, starring Colin Firth as a former WWII prisoner of war who learns that his tormentor is still alive. Stellan Skarsgård and Nicole Kidman also appear. Meanwhile, In Your Eyes is the new Joss Whedon with Zoe Kazan as a New Hampshire woman who shares something with a New Mexico man. In retrospectives there is a James Blue screening at the Film Study Center, while the Hollywood Theatre plays host to Penny Allen, the pioneering film director who made two true indie films in the 1970s, Property and Paydirt, with future filmmakers Gus Van Sant (the then sound man) and Eric Edwards, the cinematographer.
