Job Summary:
The Vice President of Programming is a key member of the Foundation’s management team and will work closely with the President/CEO and Board of Directors in developing and executing a strategic plan for the programming and artistic component of the organization.
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned radio professional with in-dept experience in classical music who can provide strong and innovative leadership. He or she will be familiar with public broadcasting, classical music and the arts, have imagination, vision, be a strategic thinker, and be able to work with diverse constituencies.
In addition, this highly polished and outgoing individual will be a self-starter, have excellent written and oral communication skills, excellent project management skills and a demonstrated passion for KBPS’s mission.
Job Responsibilities:
• Helps to develop, communicates, and implements the programming vision, strategy, and music philosophy of the Station.
• Supervises the music director and programming team, and provides coaching to on-air talent.
• Sets individual and team goals to be in alignment with the Station’s overall programming vision and strategy.
• Works closely with Development department to produce on-air fundraising activities that meet core classical audience expectations and inspire giving.
• Works closely with management team to develop and deploy a strategic communications plan, including branding and key messages, that increases awareness of and devotion to the Station by its audience, its donors, and key stakeholders.
Requirements and Qualifications:
• Deep appreciation and understanding of classical music.
• Minimum of five years experience in all functional areas of program management and supervision of professional staff.
• Knowledge of public radio’s mission, syndicated programs and distributors.
• Knowledge of current research practices and applications as they pertain to classical music programming.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Initiative, attention to detail, creative, dependable, flexible, and resourceful
• Excellent computing skills, including experience with digital audio editing software and broadcast automation systems.
• Ability and willingness to work flexible hours
• Demonstrated knowledge of FCC rules
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; music degree preferred
