20th Anniversary Concert I

This concert features performances by members of the Corvallis-based Chintimini Chamber Music Festival and works of Vitali, Beethoven, and Kenji Bunch (right), who plays his Bunch Suite for Viola and Piano with Chintimini pianist Monica Ohuchi. Organist Don Jenkins and Chintimini violinist Erik Peterson perform Vitali’s Chaconne for Violin and Organ. The program also includes Beethoven’s String Quartet Opus 59 No. 2. This lively art-filled festival has become one of the mid-Willamette Valley’s most anticipated summer events. Including a 200-booth Artist Marketplace, live music and performances from regional and national acts, hands-on arts activities for children, exhibits, a 5K Walk and Run for the Arts, and much more, the three-day event directly supports the Art Fair and SAA’s additional programs and services, including free year-long exhibits at the Bush Barn Art Center, stewardship of the Bush House Museum, community arts education programs, and in-school programs for students in Marion, Polk and Yamhill counties. Rubinstein loved the piano, loved the music he played, and was always able to charm audiences all over the world with one of the most extraordinary personalities that the twentieth century witnessed. In this event, artist will be painting the sights of Main Street, including the Saturday Market. Additionally, there will be a series of historically themed tableaux vivants - models posed in costume - presented for those painters with an inclination for figurative and narrative art. At 2 pm there will be a catered reception, with music, followed by an awards ceremony at approximately 2:30 pm in the Arts Center lobby. Participating artists are invited to leave their works to be exhibited at the Walters Arts Center during the month of August. Interested artists should know there will be over $1000 in prizes. In the second of six recitals in this series, works by Beethoven and Paul are performed by the Chamber Sailors Trio, comprised of violinist Cathy Heithaus, cellist Jenny Gleason, and pianist Carole Orloff. As with all other recitals in this series, this performance will be hosted in a private home in Salem and followed by a complimentary light wine reception and art raffle. The 47th annual Britt Classical Festival opens with a program that includes Michael Torke's Bright Blue Music and Dvorák's Seventh Symphony. Featured soloist in Bloch’s Schelomo is cellist Alisa Weilerstein, a Leonard Bernstein Award winner and recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant. Tickets range from $10 to $45.
