Lion and Lotus, a performance fusing Asian-American composers and the ancient art of Chinese Lion Dancing, will be the theme of The Portland Chamber Orchestra’s celebration of the Chinese New Year on March 3, 2026. Works by composers including Oswald Huỳnh, a Portland-native and Rome Prize winner whose music weaves a distinctive Vietnamese-American voice, and Bright Sheng, a Pulitzer Prize finalist known for his evocative Chinese-American compositions, are among the orchestra’s selections. The evening also features the ancient art form of lion dance performed by the White Lotus Foundation Lion Dancers, which is the largest lion dance team in Oregon.
