Event Details

The Oregon Mandolin Orchestra returns to the Walters stage, along with special guests How Long Jug Band, to celebrate and honor the dynamic contributions of Black composers and performers have added to the catalog of mandolin music. The How Long Jug Band, members of the Jug Band Hall of Fame, will take the audience back to a time when musicians regularly made their own instruments, linking blues and ragtime to early jazz. Meanwhile, the Orchestra will perform music spanning eras and genres, including songs from the “King of Ragtime” Scott Joplin, early jazz and ragtime composer James Reese Europe, pianist Fats Waller, orchestra leader Duke Ellington, and the Dallas String Band.

As a recipient of a City of Hillsboro Performance Series Grant, the proceeds from this performance go directly to the Orchestra with a portion going to the Hillsboro Arts & Culture Endowment.
