THE SALEM PHILHARMONIA ORCHESTRA PRESENTS “AMERICANA!” ON FEBRUARY 18th & 19th, led by guest conductor, Dr. Joshua Bavaro. This concert features American composers, beginning with John William’s stirring “Highlights from Jurassic Park”, then shifting to the emotionally evocative “Adagio for Strings” by Samuel Barber, followed by Barber’s pensive “Knoxville: Summer of 1915”, featuring guest soprano soloist and Portland resident, Jocelyn Claire Thomas. The concert continues after intermission with Aaron Copland’s sentimental WWII-era orchestral composition, “Letter from Home”, and ending with Copland’s cowboy-themed “Four Dance Episodes from ‘Rodeo’”.
Concerts begin at 7:00pm on Saturday, and 3:00pm on Sunday. Salem Phil’s venue is the East Salem Community Center, 1850 45th Ave. NE, Salem , OR 97305. Dr. Bavaro will give a pre-concert talk at 6:15pm on Saturday and 2:15pm on Sunday.
