The Music Inside is a collaborative project to preserve the compositions of Joanne Duffin, a 67 year old singer, pianist and composer living in Wilsonville, Oregon. Duffin has composed numerous songs throughout her life, most of them never recorded or performed publicly. After Duffin was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in early 2022, she became concerned that she would one day be unable to perform her songs. Naomi LaViolette, a Portland-based musician, has met with Duffin frequently over the last year to learn, recapture and record many of her compositions.

The album released digitally worldwide on streaming services on March 24, 2023, and the official release concert is set for April 16, 2023 at the Candy Pioneer Chapel, including performers Naomi LaViolette on piano and vocal, Oregon Symphony Associate Concertmaster Peter Frajola, cellist Erin Ratzlaf, guitarist Tim Karplus, and Heather Schrock, Aliyih Bristol and Lizzie Soper on vocals. Sacha Muller engineers the album, and recording sessions were held at Dead Aunt Thelma’s recording studio.
