“Carolan’s Dream – An Early Celtic New Year” with the Oregon Renaissance Band
13 Renaissance musicians, led by Phil and Gayle Neuman, perform traditional tunes by Turlough O’Carolan, William Byrd, John Playford, Thomas Weelkes and others on early violin, recorders, sackbutts, viola da gamba, cornamusen, krummhorns, racketts, tartold, bagpipes, spinettino, tabor, and voice.
The Oregon Renaissance Band, formed in 1991, performs 16th and early 17th century repertoire on authentic replicas of historical instruments, many of which were built after museum originals by the performers themselves. The ensemble specializes in performances with rhythmic precision, lively ornamentation, precise intonation, and great variety. They have appeared on NPR’s Performance Today and in numerous concert series in the U.S. and Germany. Recordings include “Now make we joye” (Renaissance Christmas music) and “Carnevale” (Italian carnival songs). The Oregon Renaissance Band appears in the movie “Buddymoon“. Released in July of 2016, distributed by Orion, this film won the audience award at the Slamdance Film Festival.
