Concert by Shanghaied on the Willamette plus BilgeRats and Pyrettes
Treasures from the deep: the rich nautical tradition of sea shanties, by two groups who keep this tradition vital with fresh interpretations and timeless favorites. Shanghaied on the Willamette is the lively musical duo of Jonathan Lay and Gordy Euler. They perform songs and tunes “plundered from land and sea,” including traditional Celtic, English, and Old-Time American music, especially music of the sea and waterways. They accompany their vocal harmonies with a fleet of acoustic instruments, including fiddle, bodhran (Irish drum), guitar (6- and 12-string), mandola, tin whistles, harmonicas and banjo.
BilgeRats & Pyrettes share the stage for our Nautical Night. Chart yer course for music to plunder by! Portland’s own hot pirate band— Kate Larsen, Signe Larsen, Shuhe Hawkins, Jeffree White, Alan Dragon, Janet Hansen will swash yer buckle as they re-invent the classic sea shanty with enticing twists of genre and brilliant harmonies; capturing Blues, Celtic, Nordic, Latin, Calypso, Country, Funk, Rock, Hot Jazz and even a few forced men along the way.
