Portland Opera: Faust
FAUST COMES TO A CROSSROADS AND HEADS IN THE WRONG DIRECTION.
Dr. Faust has spent too much of his life studying and not enough living.
When the devil appears and offers Faust a second chance at youth in exchange for his soul, he signs the deed. The devil helps him seduce Marguerite, a young beauty, but when Marguerite becomes pregnant, Faust abandons her. Outcast by the townspeople and cursed by her family, Marguerite goes insane. At some point the heavens and hell both open up. Eventually, justice is served.
A co-production of Lyric Opera of Chicago and Portland Opera. Sponsored by The Harold & Arlene Schnitzer CARE Foundation.
Sung in French with projected English translations.
