Portland State University: Suor Angelica + Gianni Schicchi, Through April 30

Suor Angelica – To hide a scandal, Angelica’s wealthy family took away her infant son and forced her to enter a convent.  Seven years later, Sister Angelica still dreams of her child. When a visiting aunt reveals that the beloved son has been dead for years, the distraught Angelica makes a fatal decision.

Gianni Schicchi – Buoso Donati has died, and his relatives are horrified: he’s left all his money to a monastery. The family turns to the cunning Gianni Schicchi to alter Buoso’s will. Gianni cooks up a brilliant scheme, but the greedy family is in for the shock of their lives! This rollicking comedy features one of the best-known arias in opera, O mio babbino caro.
