Mirror in Mirror: Violinist Anne Akiko Meyers
The extraordinary American violinist returns to music she’s recorded before, but in a new way, and explores new music on this release on the Avie label. As Meyers explains to program director John Pitman (click the Player on this page), several of these pieces revealed connections to one another. For example, Metamorphosis 2, by Philip Glass, was inspired by Fratres, by Estonian composer, Arvo Pärt. Meyers describes how the music brought events to life, such as Jakub Ciupinski’s Wreck of the Umbria (which the composer explored during a dive); as well as the very personal “Lullaby for Natalie”, written for her daughter by John Corigliano. “Mirror in Mirror” is a journey through the mystical and everyday aspects of human existence.
