Pianist Shai Wosner shares Schubert
Pianist Shai Wosner has been praised for his innovative programming in recital and on recording. On an earlier release, Mr. Wosner paired the late piano music of Brahms with early piece by Schoenberg, drawing convincing conclusions of these two residents of Vienna who otherwise seem worlds apart. Now, bridging the worlds of Schubert’s Vienna with contemporary New York, Mr. Wosner has recorded some of Schubert’s last works, including the A Major sonata, pairing it with Missy Mazzoli’s piece that was inspired by the Schubert work, and the remarkable story of a woman who abandoned her aristocratic life for the Saharan desert. John Pitman delves more deeply in conversation with Shai, and shares lots of examples.
