May is Asian American and Native Hawaiian / Pacific Islander Heritage Month!
This month and all year round, All Classical Portland’s diverse playlist includes music by Asian American and Native Hawaiian / Pacific Islander (AANHPI) composers and musicians. During the month of May, we are shining an extra special spotlight by celebrating just some of the extraordinary contributions to classical music by artists with an AANHPI background.

Programming Highlights & More
- CLUB MOD – On Saturday, May 21, 2022, host Andrea Murray will feature Chinese-born American composer, pianist and conductor Bright Sheng, Michi Wiancko, her brother Paul Wiancko, Karen Tanaka, and more.
- ON AIR – Throughout the month, All Classical Portland’s Director of Music and Programming John Pitman is sharing works written and performed by AANHPI musicians. You’ll hear music by Yamada Kosaku, Hu-Wei Huang, Gang Chen and Zanhao He, and more.
- ON AIR – Plus, enjoy works performed by violinist Anne Akiko Meyers, vocalist David Munderloh, as well as local artists including Portland State University professor Susan Chan, Kenji Bunch and Monica Ohuchi, and many more.
- ARTS BLOG – The Songs of Lili‘uokalani, Queen of Hawai‘i: All Classical Portland’s Music Researcher & Archivist Emma Riggle investigates the musical offerings of the Queen Regnant of Hawai‘i (from 1891-1893).
