LAST DAY TO APPLY – 2023 Young Artist in Residence!

The deadline to apply for the Young Artist in Residence program has been extended to December 12, 2022, at 5:00 PM PT.

All Classical Portland’s Young Artists In Residence (YAIR) program is designed to foster creative growth for emerging artists. During the residency, young musicians will enjoy the opportunities to expand and deepen engagement with audiences as well as with other artists through All Classical Portland’s wide-reaching network.

Opportunities for the Young Artist in Residence include:

• appearing on an episode of Thursdays @ Three, All Classical Portland’s weekly live broadcast performance series hosted by Christa Wessel
• performing at All Classical Portland events, such as special recitals or open houses
• writing for the station’s websites or social media platforms
• enjoying access to the recording facilities and digital archives of All Classical Portland
• receiving a financial scholarship to assist in projects and continued studies

Requirements:

• Must be between ages 13 and 20 at the time of application; If under age 18, consent of parent or guardian is required
• Must play an instrument, sing, and/or compose, and have a strong interest in classical music
• The residency runs January through December, 2023; time commitment will vary and is approximately 2-4 hours per month

Anyone who applies for the role of Young Artist in Residence will also automatically be considered for the Young Artist Ambassador position, another component of the AIR program.

In 3-5 sentences, please explain what you love about classical music, and why you want to be All Classical Portland's 2022 Young Artist in Residence (YAIR). What is one thing you would want to accomplish in the role of YAIR?

Please submit a short (5-10 minute) video of yourself playing a piece of music on your instrument. Please introduce yourself and explain why you selected that piece of music. What do you love about it? What does it mean to you? The quality does not have to be professional, smart phone recordings are fine. However, we must be able to clearly see the musician performing, and it all must be in one take. To submit your video, please upload it to Dropbox, Google drive, or YouTube (as unlisted) and send us the direct link below.

Suggestions: Please make sure there is very little to no outside noise, and make sure the lighting is good enough to see the musician. Set up the camera so the musician can be seen from at least the waist up, and position the music stand so we can see the musician’s instrument. For those using larger instruments, please try to capture as much of the musician as possible in the frame.
