Thorough the month of May and all year round, All Classical Portland’s ever-expanding playlist includes music by Jewish American composers and musicians. This month, we are commemorating just some of the extraordinary contributions to classical music by Jewish American artists.

Programming Highlights & More
- ON AIR – Throughout the month, All Classical Portland’s Director of Music and Programming John Pitman is sharing works written and performed by Jewish American musicians. You’ll hear works written and conducted by Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin, and more.
- ON AIR – John will also highlight local Jewish composer Ernest Bloch, who lived on the Oregon Coast for the last 20 years of his life (1949-1959). Listen for Bloch’s Schelomo, Hebraic Rhapsody for Cello and Orchestra, Nigun (No. 2 from Baal Shem: Three Pictures of Chassidic Life), and more.
- ARTS BLOG – A Playlist of Music by Jewish-American Women: All Classical Portland’s Music Researcher & Archivist Emma Riggle explores the outstanding contributions of Jewish women to American music.
