Metropolitan Youth Symphony: 50th Anniversary Season!
Led by accomplished MYS music director and conductor Raúl Gómez-Rojas, MYS’ Symphony Orchestra is excited to present concerts on November 10, March 2, and June 17, all tying to the season’s theme “Breaking Barriers.”
For its season finale, MYS is commissioning a piece from five-time Grammy winner esperanza spalding, to be premiered by esperanza spalding in performance with MYS Symphony Orchestra and jazz students. Other notable repertoire throughout the season includes works from Missy Mazzoli, Florence Price, John Williams, Tchaikovsky, and Beethoven.
Because creativity always shines brightest in collaboration, this season will also feature projects with Pacific Youth Choir and Portland Art Museum’s Center for an Untold Tomorrow (PAM CUT), along with world premieres by local young composers as part of The Authentic Voice commissioning series. Going strong in its seventh year, The Authentic Voice nurtures the compositional voices of the next generation in partnership with Fear No Music’s Young Composers Project.
