This week on Thursdays @ Three, Christa Wessel welcomes two incredible ensembles to the program, a duo formed from the group FANDANGO!, and the 300 Watts String Trio.
Violinist Desirée Ruhstrat and cellist David Cunliffe are both members of an exciting new group on Chicago’s musical scene, FANDANGO!, a toe-tappingly spicy mix of Latin, Spanish, Sephardic, Balkan, and classical sounds. The two are also members of the Grammy-nominated Lincoln Trio praised for their “joy of sheer technical ability, unanimity of phrasing and beautiful blended tone.”
The 300 Watts String Trio consists of three siblings: 16-year old violist Shania Watts, 14-year old cellist Jonathan Watts, and 12-year old violinist Darah Watts. In the four years they’ve been playing together as an ensemble, they’ve created a number of their own arrangements born of improvisation and their varied musical interests (jazz, Latin, and eastern music influence their creations). You’re going to love these kids!
Christa Wessel hosts Thursday, November 2 at 3 pm.
