This Sunday, All Classical Portland presents music for Veterans Day, and the 100th anniversary of the Armistice of World War I. Benjamin Britten’s stirring War Requiem of 1962 was composed for the restoration of Coventry Cathedral, bombed in WWII. Britten set the Latin text as well as poems by WWI soldier, Wilfrid Owen. Program director John Pitman chose this 50th anniversary performance because it took place in that same space, making it a very special tribute to soldiers of the two wars. Check out that performance on YouTube.
