PSU Opera; Diane Chaplin, cello

April 2, 2026: Host Christa Wessel welcomes Portland State University’s award-winning Opera program; cellist Diane Chaplin, presented by the Mittleman Jewish Community Orchestra, to the Irving Levin Performance Hall.

PSU Opera presents an exclusive preview of their production of Così fan tutte, a two-act opera buffa by composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, with libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte. Then, local Portland cellist Diane Chaplin performs an original cello concerto by Israeli composer, Ayala Asherov.

PSU Opera’s production of Così fan tutte takes audiences to a lush, mystical forest world populated by wizards, flower fairies, and half-bloods, where anything can happen when one is under the spell of love. Learn more at pdx.edu/arts.

Established in 1977, Portland State University Opera is a world-class professional training ground for students in the vocal arts, and one of few in the United States that offers both undergraduate and graduate students opportunities to take on leading roles in full-scale opera productions. The program presents two operas each academic year. Alumni of PSU’s vocal arts program have established professional careers with roles on Broadway, the Metropolitan Opera and beyond.


Diane Chaplin is a world-class cellist and nurturing music educator who lives in Portland, Oregon. She appears often as a concerto soloist, recitalist and chamber music artist, and tours around the US as a featured member of the Portland Cello Project.

Since the spring of 2020, Diane has been performing monthly livestream concerts of solo cello music, and has learned more than 250 pieces of solo repertoire during this time.
