In collaboration with Orchestra Nova Northwest, Choral Arts Ensemble of Portland, and guest soloists, Resonance brings together more than 100 singers and instrumentalists for Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Gabriela Lena Frank’s Conquest Requiem, a sweeping work that invites us to confront the stories we think we know.

Through the figure of Malinche—an Indigenous interpreter whose role in the Spanish conquest of Mexico has been understood in profoundly different ways—the work explores power, survival, identity, and the complexity of historical memory. Rather than offering a single answer, Conquest Requiem asks us to sit with the contradictions and perspectives that shape how history is remembered.

The concert also features the world premiere of a new work for orchestra and choir by Portland-based Venezuelan composer Giancarlo Castro D’Addona, honoring the life of Portland peace activist Del Greenfield and her commitment to peace and justice.

Together, these works connect histories across time and place, inviting audiences to consider whose stories are remembered, whose voices are heard, and what we might discover when we listen from more than one perspective.
