Dragos Ilie, Romanian Classical Guitarist
Romanian guitarist Dragos Ilie has delighted audiences across Europe, Asia and the United States with his charismatic and dynamic interpretations. At an early age, Dragos fell in love with the instrument after listening to his father play. Soon he enrolled at the Popular School of Arts and later the National College of Arts in his native city Iasi, with professor Marius Timpau. During that time, Dragos also studied with Dr. Daniel Dragomirescu at the National Music Conservatoire of Iasi.
His dedication for the art led him to receive numerous grants for competing, performing and studying in his home country and abroad. Some of these include the MOL Foundation Scholarship for Young Artists, the “Young Talents” Grant offered by the Margareta Principess Foundation, with support from the Royal House of Romania, and the Grant “Moștenitorii României Muzicale”, offered by Radio Romania and Rotary Club Pipera. After receiving the prestigious “Wooddruff Award”, Dragos went on to complete his Bachelor studies at “Schwob School of Music” – Columbus State University, at the class of composer and pedagogue Andrew Zohn.

Fashionistas and friends of felines alike, please join us for the 26th Annual Furball – Milano Miao! This gala fundraiser will be happening on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at a brand new event center, Avenue Portland.
Milano Miao is inspired by Italy’s love of fashion and felines. We’ll transport guests to the mecca of Italian design as we celebrate our l’amore per i gatti (love of cats). With your support, we’ll turn heads and hearts as we raise much-needed funding for spaying/neutering cats in our region.
Join us for a cocktail hour, raffles, silent and live auctions, dinner, and even a fashion show with feline flair! Are you a model? We’re looking for a few volunteers and would love to hear from you!
Attire is alta moda (high fashion) or fashionably feline! We’ll be serving vegetarian puttanesca with a gluten-free/vegan version available.
FCCO cared for a record 8,777 cats last year, and remains the only organization dedicated to providing donation-based services for feral and stray cats living on our streets. Although we ask for a donation of $50 per cat, we never turn a caregiver (or cat) away for being unable to give. With your help, we will one day say Arrivederci to future generations of homeless cats.
For those of you who are not able to attend in person check out our online auction at feralcats.com/auction-packages, we’ll have some great items for you to bid on!

HAND2MOUTH THEATRE PRESENTS MEMENTO MORI
Memento Mori, H2M’s newest original devised work, is an exploration of death and dying. A tall order. A lifetime of dying, in fact. As the writer Franz Kafka wrote, “The meaning of life is that it stops.” The lifetime of living and collecting. The search for answers. Faith. Science. Fear. Dust. Nothingness.
“Death is a mystery to me. I tend to lean on science but grew up believing in the ideas that my Catholic mother held dearly. This project is an opportunity to investigate contemporary ideas around death and dying. In a world that has been inundated with death due to the pandemic, senseless acts of violence, and the horrors of famine and war, this piece seeks to ease some of the fear that lies ahead for all of us.” – Michael Cavazos, Director
Who will write my eulogy and how will the collective “they” remember me? Who will cancel my instagram account and what photos will they find on my phone or in the depths of my old myspace account? Will I live on through technology? What have I collected and what do these mementos say about me? Will anyone miss me? Will anyone attend my funeral? My ashes divided among family members, sprinkled on the landscape, compressed into a diamond, a lock of my hair saved, cryogenic dreams, compost for a seedling that becomes a treehouse for my great grandchildren. Maybe I’ll become a firework and my family and friends will shoot me into the air.
Death. The ripples. Dearly beloved, what happens next?

The wheeling and dealing Figaro plays matchmaker between the savvy Rosina and the lovesick Count Almaviva, while Rosina’s vulturous guardian does everything he can to keep the lovebirds apart. Full of schemes and hijinks, this “zany creation that is incredibly funny and wildly colorful” (City Arts) finishes the season on a high note.

Lindy Hume’s “bright hilarious production” (The Stranger) is an audience favorite with magnificently colorful sets and costumes. Combined with Gioachino Rossini’s familiar and show-stopping tunes, this production is a treat for ears and eyes alike!

Commissioned by Corrib Theatre, From a Hole in the Ground is an original work by Portland-based playwright, poet, and actor Ken Yoshikawa, inspired by Irish folklore. Corrib will collaborate with Alberta House to develop the play, which will include mythic figures like ghosts, fairies, and even the Púca, a morally ambiguous trickster creature from Celtic lore.
Someone, some thing, has returned from the grave hell bent on a long due confrontation, upsetting the world of the good folk, and set to bring chaos to mortals too. An exploration of fairytale, time, and connection.

The Oregon Mandolin Orchestra invites you to join a spring celebration with a musical program that features a luscious array of pieces showcasing the addition of guitars to the OMO ensemble.
OMO Music Director Christian McKee has crafted a globe-trotting program that ranges from somber music by Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg to Japanese children’s songs, three selections from a suite by a modern Classical Mandolin Society of America composer and a playful piece from the French ballet often featured in films and cartoons.
The OMO Chamber Ensemble will perform the concert’s opening set, giving voice to a range of composers, countries and eras.

Intimate Letters concludes our 9th season with two landmark quartets from the 19th and 20th centuries. Janacek’s “Intimate Letters” is a portrait of passionate, unreciprocated love, seen through the hundreds of letters the composer exchanged with a much younger, married woman. The torment of love is an ever-present theme in Schubert’s music, especially in his lieder, which open the program. Rachmaninoff’s early Moments musicaux showcase signature elements of the Russian composer’s unabashedly romantic music — lush melodies, heightened expression, and thunderous, bell-like sounds — while honoring Schubert’s own Moments musicaux, emotional tone poems one critic called “intimate confidences from Schubert’s innermost soul.” And Rachmaninoff’s nostalgia-laced Symphonic Dances, his final expression of unfulfilled longing for home after 20 years of exile in the US, is born anew in Barnatan’s explosive transcription for solo piano. Now the subject of an award-winning documentary film, The Innocents is social justice advocacy through performance art. The work is an effort to delve deeply into the current issues surrounding the subject of wrongful imprisonment and exoneration, as well as a commitment to connect with the communities in which it is performed. We have embraced our role as advocates through the realization that our work cuts to the emotional core of the human experience surrounding these issues.
Using a variety of found-object and home-made instruments, electronic soundscapes, and spoken texts, we have devised a one-hour dramatic soundscape comprised of at least seventeen tableaus which explore aspects of the issues surrounding wrongful imprisonment and exoneration in the American criminal justice system: mistaken identity, JOHN LANE and ALLEN OTTE FILM TRAILER is HERE.

Lindy Hume’s “bright hilarious production” (The Stranger) is an audience favorite with magnificently colorful sets and costumes. Combined with Gioachino Rossini’s familiar and show-stopping tunes, this production is a treat for ears and eyes alike!

We conclude our season with his stunning and expansive Quartet in G Major, Schubert’s last string quartet.

Something stirs on the Other Side and comes knocking…

The Portland Ballet presents John Clifford’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, a family friendly and witty confection of a ballet, danced to Felix Mendelssohn’s gorgeous music. This amusing and elegant adaptation of Shakespeare’s comedy showcases a variety of challenging choreography: the fleet-footedness of fairies, the antics of rustics, and the style and grace of nobility. The magic begins with excited buzzing in the enchanted forest and ends with a grand pas de deux to celebrate a royal wedding. Along the way, fairies feud and stir up mischief, a merry buffoon turns into a donkey, and the queen of the fairies falls in love with him.

Something stirs on the Other Side and comes knocking…

In this multi-media event, we celebrate mothers through a combination of classical and modern music, poetry, and a fascinating look into all the ways that motherhood changes the brains of both mothers and children throughout their lives. The program will be narrated by author, public speaker, and neuroscientist Dr. Larry Sherman, who will talk about how a mother’s brain changes during pregnancy and after birth, the neuroscience of the bonding that occurs in the brains of mothers and children, what happens when mothers sing to their children, and how a mother’s brain changes with their experiences with their children over the course of their lives.
These discussions will be highlighted by music that celebrates motherhood and all of its wonders and challenges. The show will also highlight all of these concepts with readings of the poetry of Ann Taylor, Nikita Gill, Margaret Hasse, and Alice Walker, as well as visual art that celebrates mothers and their children, and illustrations that highlight the amazing changes that happen in mothers’ brains and the brains of their children as they bond and grow together.

We conclude our season with his stunning and expansive Quartet in G Major, Schubert’s last string quartet.

Music by Gioachino Rossini; Libretto by Cesare Sterbini
The wheeling and dealing Figaro plays matchmaker between the savvy Rosina and the lovesick Count Almaviva, while Rosina’s vulturous guardian does everything he can to keep the lovebirds apart. Full of schemes and hijinks, this “zany creation that is incredibly funny and wildly colorful” (City Arts) finishes the season on a high note.
Lindy Hume’s “bright hilarious production” (The Stranger) is an audience favorite with magnificently colorful sets and costumes. Combined with Gioachino Rossini’s familiar and show-stopping tunes, this production is a treat for ears and eyes alike!

Something stirs on the Other Side and comes knocking…
