Portland Youth Philharmonic: Flames of Transformation

This concert is all about transformation, through music and through personal growth. Jessica Meyer’s Turbulent Flames brings raw energy and emotional depth. PYP is proud to be part of the national consortium that commissioned this bold new work, spotlighting a composer whose voice deserves far more recognition.

The program also features our 2026 Concerto Competition Winner – an exciting opportunity to hear the next young soloist rise to the occasion. (winner will be announced in October – so stay tuned!)

Howard Hanson’s Symphony No. 3, a cinematic and lyrical American masterpiece, returns to the PYP stage after many years. Hattner calls it “due for a comeback,” as it offers a stunning platform for the orchestra’s expressive range.
