Oregon Repertory Singers and Youth Choir welcome Union High School’s string orchestra for Glory of Christmas! This year we’re not only celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Oregon Repertory Singers and the 30th Anniversary of ORS Youth Choir, but the 40th and final year of teaching for Tim Siess, Union High School orchestra director and long-time member of Oregon Repertory Singers! Choir and orchestra will combine for movements of Vivaldi’s famous Gloria, as well as music by Ola Gjeilo, Randall Thompson, and a new orchestration of Written for You by our very own Naomi LaViolette, also celebrating a milestone—20 years with ORS! The choir will also sing holiday favorites including Eriks Esenvalds’ Stars for choir and tuned wine-glasses, and Ethan Sperry’s unfortunate medley of Hannukah songs.

Come join Aurora Chorus at our Winter concert “Inner Gardens” on Sat, Dec 16, 2023 at 7 pm at First United Methodist Church, 1838 SW Jefferson St, Portland, Oregon. Tickets on sale here:
Aurora Chorus gathers to reflect on the transfigurations of winter and the motions for which it calls: tending to “inner gardens,” in the words of the Austrian poet and writer Rainer Maria Rilke. The chorus will share songs looking at the nature of winter’s ability to inspire inner and interpersonal cultivation.
“So often I see art about winter that talks about how dreary it is or talks about the fortitude we need to grit through its harshness – so this year I wanted to present a concert that truly embraces winter and gives us food for contemplating its unique inspirations. I love Rainer Maria Rilke’s framing of it as a time for cultivating one’s inner gardens and am excited to share some music with the community that I hope brightens our senses for appreciating this time of year. Please join us!”
– Rebecca Parsons, Aurora Chorus Artistic Director
