Amy Faust chats with Joey Young, a senior at Mountain View High School in Vancouver. After picking up a viola for his school music program in the 5th grade, Joey’s love of classical music led to an interest in composing, which he has been doing now for several years.
Through Fear No Music’s Young Composers Project, Joey has worked with Jeff Payne and other professional musicians to develop his craft and record his compositions. His variation on Subwoofer Lullaby was performed by the Metropolitan Youth Symphony at their Fall concert, and his work in progress, Morning for Music, will be played at a Fear No Music concert on May 22 (location TBD). His high school orchestra will also play that piece at their final concert of the year on June 2.
Joey will attend University of Washington next year to study science, but will continue his composing and playing while in school.
