On Deck with Kara Taylor
A music lover since birth, Kara Taylor took up the piano at the ripe old age of 3 so that she could accompany her own singing. She has since added violin and saxophone to her repertoire, as well as the flute, which she currently plays with Metropolitan Youth Symphony. At 14, her vocal chops landed her the role of the shepherdess in Opera in the Park’s 2018 performance of Tosca.
While in quarantine, she misses playing for her school band (Valley Catholic) and performing with the Pacific Youth Choir, but she has made the most of it by composing original choral pieces, recording every single part herself and then mixing them into lovely little masterpieces. Her latest recording, based on an Emily Dickinson poem, is linked below:

This is the ‘quarantine’ video referenced in this episode of “On Deck” – musicians of the Metropolitan Youth Symphony recorded their parts individually in their own homes.
