Portland Opera; Resonance Ensemble

February 29, 2024: Host Christa Wessel welcomes the Portland Opera and Resonance Ensemble to the Roger O. Doyle performance studio.

Portland Opera will share an exclusive preview of their upcoming production of The Snow Day, based on a story by Ezra Jack Keats. Resonance Ensemble will perform highlights from their upcoming concert, Amendment: Righting Our Wrongs, featuring trailblazing composers, poets, and activists showcasing dynamic new works that look to our past to inspire a better future.

ABOUT

Smiling snowmen, snow angels, and warm bubble baths: experience the magic of Ezra Jack Keats’ beloved children’s book come to life on the opera stage. The Snowy Day follows the adventures of young Peter as he explores his neighborhood on a snowy day, making new friends and encountering unexpected wonders along the way.

Portland Opera has been bringing opera to life since the company’s founding in 1964. The first production was Johann Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus, which opened on November 7, 1964, at the Leodis V. McDaniel High School (then known as Madison High School). This first season also included Puccini’s beloved masterpiece, La Bohème, which (to date) has been the most performed opera in the company’s history.

Today, you can still find Portland Opera singers in parks and festivals around town, with their Opera a la Cart performances. Learn more at portlandopera.org.

Now in its fifteenth season, Resonance Ensemble, is a professional vocal ensemble based in Portland, Oregon, that creates powerful programs that promote meaningful social change. Resonance’s award-winning programming takes a radically collaborative approach, developing concerts in conversation with community partners. Resonance commissions and champions new works by composers and poets whose stories have been underrepresented on the concert stage.
