Lisa Lipton Explores: The James Beard Public Market

Picture this… a daily indoor market bustling with people, vendor stalls offering local products, flowers, chocolates, and cheeses; the aroma of freshly baked goods, spices, and roasting coffee; and colorful displays of Oregon fruits and vegetables.
That’s the vision for Portland’s upcoming James Beard Public Market, to be located at SW 6th Street and SW Alder, just a block away from Pioneer Square.
Named for prolific Oregon-born chef, author, television host, and cooking-school founder, the market will be open year-round, offering healthy culinary options and a gathering space in the heart of the city.
All Classical Radio host Lisa Lipton recently sat down with Jessica Elkan, Executive Director of the James Beard Public Market, to talk about its exciting future, pop-ups and other planned events, and their big community-building aspirations. Hear their conversation below.

The James Beard Public Market is projected to open in early 2027. Learn more at jamesbeardpublicmarket.com.
