“sunlight in Iberia”

Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Montero opens Portland Piano International’s 49th season with Sunlight in Iberia, an afternoon that moves from the blaze of Spanish dance into the hush of the culture’s inner shadows — Scarlatti and Soler to Albéniz, Granados, Chopin, and Liszt. One of the world’s great improvisers, she plays the music of her mother tongue as if discovering it in the moment.
