Metropolitan Youth Symphony is proud to present its season finale “Joy Manifest: Beethoven’s Ninth” on June 14, 7:30 PM at Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. From turmoil to triumph, Beethoven’s final symphony breaks the mold and sings of universal fraternity. It’s not just the shoulders we stand on: it’s the future we reach for.
Repertoire:
– ‘Symphony No. 9’ by Ludwig van Beethoven, featuring Oregon Chorale and Portland Opera artists Gregory Brumfield, Michael Brandon, Jasmine Johnson, and Abigail Krawson.
– ‘Variations on a Rococo Theme’ by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, featuring MYS Concerto Competition Strings Category Winner Margaux Hicks (cello).
– World premiere of ‘HEADLINES’ by student composer Elaina Stuppler, as part of The Authentic Voice commissioning series in partnership with Fear No Music’s Young Composers Project.
MYS Interlude Orchestra opens the concert.
