As our spring arrives in Portland, NW Dance Project, in the throes of its 22nd season, blooms again with two world premiere works from a pair of talented (and friendly) Canadians!

NW Dance Project’s founding Artistic Director, Sarah Slipper, creates her latest work for the company. An award-winning choreographer noted for her brooding and cinematic works, Sarah’s new creation is sure to leave a lasting impression and soak a few hankies.

Returning choreographer and current Choreographic Associate for The National Ballet of Canada, Ethan Colangelo, will create a new work for the company featuring an original score from noted dance music composer Ben Waters (not the “British boogie pianist” Ben Waters). Ethan says both creators are “sourcing inspiration from Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 that encompasses a beautiful dichotomy of love/fear, longing/intimacy, and hope/anger. In recent years in my own work, I’ve been interested in discovering intersections of contrasting emotional states such as these that have provided immense starting points for my work. You can expect to see a high level of physical endurance whilst also being drawn into an imaginative world exploring human connection and intimacy.”

Estimated full run time is 80 minutes with one 20-minute intermission.
