OregonLive: This nationally syndicated Portland radio show celebrates music of the movies

“The Score,” All Classical Radio’s nationally syndicated program that celebrates film music with inspiring and informative one-hour shows, is having a moment. Now on the cusp of its 18th year, weekly episodes of “The Score” are carried by 60 stations and reach an estimated 1 million listeners – not counting those online worldwide. With such an expansive audience, this distinctive show about music in the movies may be the most popular radio show ever produced in Portland.

One reason for the success of “The Score” is its exploration of wide-ranging themes. A sampling of recent programs includes seasonal topics such as the music that underscores the holidays (“Christmas Through the Years” and “Thanksgiving Stuffing”), serious matters (“The Building Blocks of America: Immigrants”), pure fantasy (“Dragons: Flights of Fancy”), and science fiction (“They Came from Outer Space”). Some shows are dedicated to the music of specific composers, such as Terrance Blanchard and James Newton Howard.
