Thursdays at Three: 45th Parallel Universe & Portland Opera

45th Parallel Universe & Portland Opera

September 8, 2022: Host Christa Wessel welcomes 45th Parallel Universe and Portland Opera to the Roger O. Doyle performance studio.

45th Parallel’s musicians violinist Ron Blessinger, flutist Martha Long, and pianist Maria Garcia will perform Bohuslav Martinu‘s Sonata for violin, flute, piano, John Cage‘s Nocturne for violin and piano, and more!

ABOUT

45th Parallel Universe is a collective of musicians who come together to celebrate great chamber music with intimate artistic experiences. Since 2009, the organization has happily demolished distinctions between old and new chamber music, bluegrass and jazz, fiddle and folk. By bringing fragmented audiences together, 45th Parallel Universe reflects Portland’s surging creative communities in fresh and imaginative ways.

Portland Opera has been bringing opera to life since the company’s founding in 1964. Their first production was Johann Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus, which opened on November 7, 1964, at the Leodis V. McDaniel High School (then known as Madison High School). This first season also included Puccini’s beloved masterpiece, La Bohème, which (to date) has been the most performed opera in the company’s history.
