Carla Kihlstedt and Matthias Bossi of avant-rock band Sleepytime Gorilla Museum take on Portland with their song-spinning duo, Rabbit Rabbit Radio.
Creative beyond measure, the music of Rabbit Rabbit Radio draws on their collective love of art song, folk song, industrial music, improvised music and heart-wrenching balladry. If you listen closely, you’ll hear traces of their many musical associations, but this project is their own personal challenge: a dare to peel back influence and to reveal a music that is stripped down and intimate, and all the more powerful for it. The songs of Rabbit Rabbit Radio are raw and beautiful, sparse and rich, lighthearted and full of pathos.

Something stirs on the Other Side and comes knocking…
Commissioned by Corrib Theatre, From a Hole in the Ground is an original work by Portland-based playwright, poet, and actor Ken Yoshikawa, inspired by Irish folklore. Corrib will collaborate with Alberta House to develop the play, which will include mythic figures like ghosts, fairies, giants, and even the Púca, a morally ambiguous trickster creature from Celtic lore.
Someone, some thing, has returned from the grave hell bent on a long due confrontation, upsetting the world of the good folk, and set to bring chaos to mortals too. An exploration of fairytale, time, and connection.

Imago Co-Founder Carol Triffle premieres her newest show: Mission Gibbons
The time has come to listen to the Cavemen sing.
Is humankind moving forwards or backwards? In Carol Triffle’s strangely empowering absurdist comedy, the answer is “both.” Three day-tripping hikers find their climb up Mount Plastic reoriented by a trio of Neanderthals who know a thing or two about the end of the world … and how to save it! With Irish drinking songs, ballads of man-eating bears, and even a tune in a language that you’ve never heard before, Mission Gibbons makes our impending apocalypse a little less scary, even as Triffle satirizes our ongoing consumerism, self-absorption, and need for love. Feel free to laugh ’til it hurts.
Cast includes Kyle Delamarter, Amy Katrina Bryan, Anne Sorce, Tory Mitchell, Laura Loy, and Brooklyn Williams. Lighting design is by Jon Farley. Set design is by Alex Meyer.

Oregon Repertory Singers and Youth Choir join with Portland Youth Philharmonic for a profound reflection on life, meaning, and the search for light in the darkest of times with two stunning works for choir and orchestra.
Oregon Repertory Singers concludes their 50th season with Finding Light, a new work for choir and orchestra by Filipino-American composer Matthew Lyon Hazzard. ORS commissioned Hazzard to write a complement to Lux Aeterna, commonly considered the most beautiful twentieth-century work for choir and orchestra, composed by National Medal of Arts winner and beloved Oregonian composer Morten Lauridsen. While Lauridsen’s oratorio approaches the theme of light from a religious perspective, Hazzard’s new work is the ideal companion piece to conclude the concert, with poems by young Chinese-American (and Portlandian!) poet Sophia Mautz about finding light in the darkest of times. Camerata from Portland Youth Philharmonic—celebrating their 100th Anniversary—is collaborating on this performance, along with members of ORS Youth Choir—celebrating 30 years this season! It’s a season of milestones! Join us for this celebration of light, life, and longevity!

OREGON REPERTORY SINGERS and YOUTH CHOIR join with CAMERATA from PORTLAND YOUTH PHILHARMONIC for a profound reflection on life, meaning, and the search for light in the darkest of times with two stunning works for choir and orchestra.
After nearly fifty years OREGON REPERTORY SINGERS continues to prove itself a leader in choral programming in Portland. In the past two years alone, ORS has welcomed two of the biggest names in choral music to Portland, GRAMMY©-WINNING COMPOSER AND CONDUCTOR ERIC WHITACRE and EMMY©-WINNING COMPOSER JAKE RUNESTAD. And for the 50th season ORS has gone further, ordering a commission from up-and-coming Filipino-American composer MATTHEW LYON HAZZARD to act as a companion piece to the gorgeous LUX AETERNA, commonly considered the most beautiful twentieth-century work for choir and orchestra, composed by NATIONAL MEDAL OF ARTS WINNER and beloved OREGONIAN COMPOSER MORTEN LAURIDSEN.

Instead, Hannah marries a wealthy older man who soon dies, leaving her all his fortune. The country is suffering financially, so the Baron and his wife host a party for the widowed Hannah – part of a scheme to find her a husband amongst her compatriots to keep her wealth in the country. Something stirs on the Other Side and comes knocking…
Commissioned by Corrib Theatre, From a Hole in the Ground is an original work by Portland-based playwright, poet, and actor Ken Yoshikawa, inspired by Irish folklore. Corrib will collaborate with Alberta House to develop the play, which will include mythic figures like ghosts, fairies, and even the Púca, a morally ambiguous trickster creature from Celtic lore.
Someone, some thing, has returned from the grave hell bent on a long due confrontation, upsetting the world of the good folk, and set to bring chaos to mortals too. An exploration of fairytale, time, and connection.

The Merry Widow
by Franz Lehár
Indulge in the elegance, romance, and comedic brilliance of Franz Lehar’s lighthearted operetta, “The Merry Widow” with an unexpected twist. Count Danilo and Hannah fall in love, but their marriage is thwarted by his uncle because of Hannah’s insufficient wealth. Instead, Hannah marries a wealthy older man who soon dies, leaving her all his fortune. The country is suffering financially, so the Baron and his wife host a party for the widowed Hannah – part of a scheme to find her a husband amongst her compatriots to keep her wealth in the country. Danilo feigns disinterest for fear his heart will be broken yet again. This flirtatious and humorous love story is woven together with energetic dance sequences and infectious tunes sung in English, and accompanied live by the PSU Orchestra.

Finally, we conclude our season at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church with Northwest Voices. In our continued mission to give voice to local and regional composers, we once again partner with Cascadia Composers. These concerts will showcase works by local and regional artists, including Northwest native Morten Lauridsen’s complete Madrigali: Six ‘Fire Songs’ on Italian Renaissance Poems. We hope you will join us for a wine-tasting fundraiser on the St. Philip Neri campus after the Saturday evening concert.

FINDING LIGHT

A testament to Beethoven’s sly wit, the Eighth Symphony finds the revolutionary composer transforming beloved 18th-century dance forms with new dramatic possibilities. And violinist Baiba Skride displays a “soaring, incisive tone” (Strad) in Britten’s Violin Concerto, an emotionally charged work composed as Europe descended into World War II.
